Now you have to click on Controller Settings. If you don’t see it in the menu, look it up in the Controller section.
You will see that you can choose several options, most of them designed to configure a specific controller.
All you have to do now is check the PS4 Configuration Support box. Steam will recognize your controller and you will already have it mapped automatically.
Now, register your PS4 Controller on your account.
The last step will be to customize your controller. You can give it a specific name, enable or disable vibration, and configure the color, brightness, and saturation of the light characteristic of the PlayStation 4 control.
Once you have everything to your liking press Send and ready, you can use it in any game.
Method #2: Set up your PS4 controller with DS4Windows
But if you have games on other platforms than Steam, you also have an alternative.
This is DS4Windows, an application with which to automatically install the drivers needed by Windows to configure your command correctly. Go to their website and click on the Download Now button to go to the downloads section.
It will take you to the GitHub page of the project, where you will have to click on the option DS4Windows.zip to start the download. Unzip the file and double click on the DS4Windows.exe file.
The first time it will ask you where you want to save the profiles of your controllers.
If you press Program Folder, it will save your profiles in the same folder of the program, and with Appdata it will save in the internal Windows files. Choose the one you prefer.

Now, Click on Step 1 to install the drivers.
If you have Windows 7 or earlier, you will have to click on Step 2to install additional drivers. Once finished, click on Finish at the bottom of the screen.
It’s possible that you have to wait a few minutes or even restart to complete the process, but the next time you start the application you will only see the Controllers screen , and in it, you should see the controller with its MAC address and the battery life.
On the right, you will also see a pull-down tab with controller profiles, and an Edit button to edit them.

Since I updated to Windows 8.1 I cannot get my PC to charge my controller. Is there anyway to get the driver I need to enable my PC to do this again?
Go to your Device Manager and then to your Human Interface Devices section before plugging in your PS3 controller. Then plug in your PS3 controller and you will see 'HID-compliant game controller' and 'HID-compliant wireless radio controls' be updated to your Human Interface Devices section. Right click and disable 'HID-compliant game controller' then unplug and replug in your PS3 controller and it should charge fine.
