Slow speeds using qbittorrent - posted in Troubleshooting and Problems: Hey all, I am struggling a little with speeds on qbittorrent while downloading in particular. I get speeds of around 25 mb/s with the vpn on, yet qbittorrent seems to only be using around 2 mb/s. I have tried different protocols and this seems a little slow to me.

Hi,
qBittorrent (3.3.3) for me downloads stuff slower then uTorrent. It's usually around 2.1MB/s (should be around 7MB/s). I think it might be connected to the number of connected peers. It's a very low number a lot lower than in uTorrent. In my opinion it has troubles with connecting to peers.

Any ideas how to fix this ?

go to options and in the the 'connection' tab you should see an option for 'maximum number of connections per torrent'. you can also try going to the advanced tab and enable 'exchange trackers with other peers'.

Go through the guide. Just do it.

And give me some of your speed, I'm not even reaching 1mb/s 😅

Hope this helps.

for what's worth, I can definitely download at more than that, so I would suspect settings or external factors.

Check that the trackers you add are still functioning -- as many have gone offline for good.

Adding a LOT of unnecessary trackers, plus doing announces to all of them all the time, plus using tracker exchange ...can have a SEVERE impact on tracker stability and costs once you've added 100+ torrents. It can also reduce your speeds drastically.
Please do not do this!

Peer Exchange, Local Peer Discovery, and DHT should be more than sufficient to find new peers/seeds. If those are not working on public torrents, you have additional connectivity problems and adding trackers will make those problems worse instead of better.

Incidentally, uTorrent doesn't support tracker exchange and only attempts 1 tracker per tier at a time -- making it far easier on trackers.
qBitTorrent really needs to support tracker tiers so alternate tracker names (especially HTTP vs HTTPS vs UDP trackers) aren't all attempted if the first one works.

Having 'Always announce to all trackers' unchecked should fix that 'problem'.

@Misiek304 try to limit your upload speed. This is not a qBittorrent bug. Please, close this issue and ask in the forum.
